How to Prepare for Hill Meetings
NFIB will schedule Hill meetings for you based on the address you provide in your registration. Attendees from each state will stay together for meetings and will be accompanied by an NFIB staff member.
Is this your first time attending a Fly-In?
No worries. We will have designated time to walk through what to expect and how you to effectively share your small business story.
Whether you’re a first-timer or seasoned attendee, here are some tips on how to prepare to make the most of your hill meetings:
Who are your elected officials? Visit Congress.gov to confirm your U.S. Representative and two U.S. Senators.
Office Background
- Is the Representative/Senator a cosponsor of the legislation we will be discussing?
- If the Representative/Senator is a cosponsor – are others in the state delegation?
- Is it appropriate to ask for feedback on what could be done to get their colleagues to also support?
- What committees are the Representative/Senator on? Is the office small business friendly?
Meeting Structure
Meetings are typically 15-30 minutes with a staff member of the office. A relationship with Hill staff is an important relationship with the office. They play a crucial role in advising your elected officials.
